Despite efforts to expand their enclosures, government approval was not obtained in time. The cubs will move to Wildwood Devon in England, where they’ll have the space and opportunities they need. Meanwhile, Sandra, their mother, is naturally transitioning as her cubs grow independent, mirroring behavior seen in the wild.

This decision, though emotional, prioritizes the welfare of all bears in the sanctuary. De Zonnegloed remains committed to monitoring and sharing updates about Nanuq and Malenky’s new journey.

Mimi’s Dental Surgery

This week, our bear Mimi underwent a complex dental procedure, with six teeth extracted to relieve her pain. Her companion, Uli, will require a similar surgery after the winter. Dental issues in bears are often hidden, but specialized checks allowed us to intervene in time. The total cost for both procedures is approximately €7,000.

Tsiga, Zuri, and Zwadi, three rescued fennec foxes, found a safe haven at De Zonnegloed after being confiscated from a trader who kept them in poor conditions. These animals require specialized care and a spacious environment, making them unsuitable as pets.
