De Zonnegloed: A Safe Haven for Exotic Wild Animals in Need

Sanctuary De Zonnegloed

De Zonnegloed plays a crucial role in rescuing exotic wild animals that can no longer survive in their natural habitat due to various circumstances. Our mission is to provide these animals with a permanent, safe home where they receive the care they need.

We work closely with organizations like Stichting AAP, the Natuurhulpcentrum, and various bird rescue centers across Europe to save animals from difficult situations.

Many of the animals that come to us have been confiscated due to neglect, illegal trade, or because their owners realized they could not meet the complex needs of their exotic pets.

Rescuing an animal involves extensive preparations, from handling paperwork to organizing safe transport, often with the help of a veterinarian to sedate larger animals for travel.

Rehabilitation and Resocialization: The Path to Recovery

At De Zonnegloed, the real work begins once an animal arrives. Many animals have suffered from poor living conditions, improper diets, or years of isolation. Our team of experienced caretakers and veterinarians works daily on their physical and mental recovery, a process we call rehabilitation.

Animals that have missed out on social interaction with others of their species are taught how to live in a group again. This resocialization process is essential, especially for social animals like monkeys and bears, who often never had the chance to develop natural behaviors. Our caretakers guide this process step by step, first allowing the animals to adjust to their new environment and then gradually introducing them to a group.

The Importance of Adapted Housing

Once the animals have sufficiently recovered, we find a permanent home for them within De Zonnegloed. Here, they can live in a safe, adapted environment with other animals of their kind. This enclosure becomes their new home, where they can spend the rest of their lives in peace and safety.

Unfortunately, returning to the wild is not an option for these animals. Many lack the skills to survive in nature due to their past, and in addition, their natural habitats have often been severely damaged or even disappeared. De Zonnegloed therefore offers them the best possible alternative: a permanent, loving home.

Conclusion

De Zonnegloed plays a vital role in offering a second chance to exotic wild animals that would otherwise have no future. Through our dedication to rescue, rehabilitation, and resocialization, these animals can still live a dignified and happy life.

We remain committed to providing these animals with a safe and loving environment, where they will always be welcome.
