White-handed gibbon Hylobates lar
Animals in our sanctuary
Vasa
Vasa comes from Parc Zoologique Val d'Hérault where the animal was poorly cared for. The park had to close its doors and some animals were taken care of by the AAP Foundation. Fortunately, Vasa found a definitive new home at De Zonnegloed.
Ami
Ami comes from Israeli Primate Sanctuary, a sanctuary for primates in Israel. Ami used to live in a zoo with another gibbon. After the female died, Ami spent 3 years on his own. In those three years he lost part of his leg because he had climbed on an electricity pole, he became depressed and stopped eating. The zoo contacted the sanctuary in Israel for help. The sanctuary contacted De Zonnegloed and nowAmi will be able to enjoy a safe stay together with gibbon Vasa.
