Where does he feel most at home?

The lama is a mountain dweller who feels at home at an altitude of 2300 to 4000 meters in the Andes, southwest of South America. Its thick woollen coat gives protection against the temperature changes and the narrow, mobile calluses under its legs provide a hold on steep slopes.

What's his favourite food?

The diet of the llama consists of leaves, buds, grasses, herbs and mosses.

Fun fact

It does not occur in the wild, but is kept as domestic livestock. The lama is derived from the guanaco, which was domesticated 6000-7000 years ago. The Incas used the llama as a beast of burden in the silver mines, ate the meat and used the wool to make clothing and rope. They made shoes from the skin and candles were melted from the fat. Even the dried manure was given a function: fuel.
