Satum and Viritus were brought in together with other animals after the closure of the Wissel Zoo, the Netherlands. The animals could not go anywhere. Fortunately they found a place in De Zonnegloed where they can now lead a hopeful life together.

Tammy was confiscated by the Belgian police. The police were informed of the animal because a man saw a red-handed tamarin for sale on a second-hand website. The police found the animal in a kind of cat basket in the trunk of a car and immediately confiscated it in order to bring it safely to an animal shelter.

Where does he feel most at home?

The red-handed tamarin lives mainly in trees in the northeast of the Amazon basin, east of the Rio Negro and the Rio Branco, in Northern Brazil, Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana.

What's his favourite food?

The food consists of fruits, seeds, nectar, spiders, lizards and frogs. They prefer to find their food between open tree tops.

Fun fact

The red-handed tamarin can make leaps of 18 meters from a tree branch to the ground without any injury.
